Lieff Salonius:

Lieff Salonius is the Development Manager for Science East Science Centre. New Brunswick’s focus on innovation as the path to economic growth has challenged business and academics to consider the pathways to innovative thinking.  While IT and ICT sectors are addressing HR shortages in the short term, thousands of students diverge from science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects very early in life. How could this be when their lives are driven by science and technology and they are floating in a sea of exciting applications and devices? Lieff will discuss what children, as the world’s most creative problem-solvers, can teach us about inspiring them and forging a different future for the province.

Looking forward to seeing everyone – please let us know you are coming by registering: http://doodle.com/23uum6pneasycc48

Christin’s background:
At University Christin got engaged in the Nordic Network for Women in Physics (NorWiP), and as the chairman of the Ph.D. council she worked with gender issues and the specific challenges faced by female students trying to pursue a career in physics. After finishing her Ph.D. in Physics at Stockholm University, Christin Wiedemann started working as a software developer for the Swedish consulting company HiQ. Christin soon discovered that software testing was more interesting and challenging than development and joined the Swedish test company AddQ Consulting. There, she worked as a tester, test lead and trainer, giving courses on agile testing, test design and exploratory testing throughout Europe. During this time, Christin also developed a course on exploratory testing, and is a co-creator of the exploratory testing approach xBTM.

Christin currently lives in Vancouver, where she recently started working with FoWCS – Focus on Women in Computing – at UBC (https://www.cs.ubc.ca/our-department/administration/committees/women). She has also recently joined the team at Professional Quality Assurance (PQA) Ltd. where she continues to use her scientific background and pedagogic abilities to develop her own skills and those of others. Having spent the last 15 years in male-dominated environments, she’s taken a strong interest in promoting women and working to encourage women to select careers in science and technology. It’s something she cares deeply about, and something she think is very important to talk about.
