Folks, Science East is one of the groups in our province making a difference in encouraging young girls to follow a path towards science and technology. They need our help. If you are available for either of the ILLUMINATE! events below, or know someone who might be – perhaps someone who lives in the event area, please contact Lieff Salonius at Science East. She will explain what the event is like and what is required of volunteers (very easy) and answer any questions you may have. She can help any volunteer who would like to be involved, including providing you with some activity to host to help initiate conversations. Experience shows that having professional women in front of young women, telling their stories of what they do and how they got to where they are, is very powerful. Please consider getting involved. If you can’t be part of either of these events, consider giving Lieff a call anyway to find out more about it, with the possibility of participating in an event sometime next term.

Lieff’s contact info: lieff.salonius@scienceeast.nb.ca or 506-457-2340 ext. 26

Exhibitors are encouraged to provide hands-on displays and activities (feel free to contact us if you need help with display ideas).

The Annual General Meeting of the New Brunswick IT Council will be held November 27th between 4:40 and 6:30, at the New Brunswick Museum in Market Square, Saint John. A reception will be held following the meeting.

Members and non-members alike are invited to attend. NBITC’s CEO, Larry Sampson gave a compelling status report on our industry and the work of the Council at our NBWICT group event yesterday evening, which sparked a lively and fully-engaged discussion. Last evening’s gathering provided excellent background for the AGM, including how we can help grow our sector.

You can find out more about the NBITC at http://nbitc.ca/news/nbitc-agm-be-held-november-27th.

Speaker: Larry Sampson, CEO New Brunswick Information Technology Council

Larry, will share with us what the council is working on, its accomplishments to date and what their plans are for the near future. Learn how the ICT sector is part of the solution in helping us build a stronger provincial economy. One of the challenges for the sector is the availability of ICT talent. You will learn about the council’s plans to address these issues and hear how NB Women in ICT can play a part in this.

Also at this event, the NB Women in ICT leadership group will share with you the work undertaken over the past few months in helping us define our vision and present to you our first draft for a Strategy for our group. This will be your first of many opportunities to help us set priorities for our group and work with everyone on executing on those strategies.
