Panel discussion on Kids and Code, January 23 January 18, 2014

Organizers have been working hard on the arrangements for the upcoming Panel Discussion on  Kids and Coding and are now happy to be sharing the details.  The event will be held in the school gymnasium at Touchstone Academy (formerly Touchstone Community School) in Rothesay.  The details are as follows.  All are welcome; you may have questions answered on how to introduce this program in your area..

Live and Learn Series Panel Discussion: Kids and Code

  • Leroy Vincent (River Valley Middle School teacher)
  • Kati Norman (Touchstone Academy Vice Principal and teacher)
  • Moira Sherwood (Anglophone School District-South Technology Curriculum Coordinator)

Also attending: Greg Hemmings and film crew from Hemmings House

Focus of Discussion:

Why should kids learn to code? How can schools introduce coding? How does the NB IT Council’s “Adopt a School” program work and what kinds of things has the program achieved so far?

Highlights from the Hemmings House/CBC documentary featuring the Adopt a School pilot program will be shown. The crew will also be filming segments for the documentary during the Discussion. Students from River Valley Middle School and Touchstone Academy will demonstrate some of the projectwork they have undertaken with the help of their NB IT Council mentors.
