Vivek Wadhwa has written an interesting and marginally hopeful article on LinkedIn about the history of women forming and running startups and how things may be changing. We thought you might enjoy reading it. Thanks for sharing, Laura.

Give it a look at:  Women in Tech Face Many Challenges – But There is Hope

TechWomen Canada is looking for Canadian women in tech who are founders, Venture Capitalists or leaders of technology associations in Canada again this year.  Last year, one of the women selected for this unique opportunity was our own Mary Goggin of Accreon.  Based on her experience, she highly recommends that others consider applying.

From Mary Goggin: I was fortunate to be selected to take part in TechWomen Canada for its inaugural year last May. It was a real eye opener. It plunks you in the middle of Silicon Valley, opens doors to Canadians working there through networking events, introduces you to incubators like C100 and the San Francisco/Silicon Valley Canadian Consulate, whose mandate is to promote trade & investment and advance Canada’s interests in the region. It would be particularly valuable for someone working on a product or new business idea or anyone who is working at advancing IT. It is for women to provide opportunity for women. It provides exposure, knowledge and a view to what is possible. You learn about the support that is available, the process of taking a product to market and get exposed to various areas including legal, venture capitalist and some really cool companies in Silicon Valley.

If this sounds like a good fit for you, I encourage you to apply. They will want to select at least one women from New Brunswick. You can find details of the program and the application process off the link above for the San Francisco/Silicon Valley Canadian Consultate (first link under Local Highlights). Application deadline is April 5.  If you would like to talk about it or have any questions, please get in touch with me at Mary.Goggin@Accreon.com.
