CanCompEd

ANNOUNCEMENT:
CanCompEd Day will be Friday, February 22, 2013. Surrounding this day, throughout the month of February, will be various events across the nation, hosted by schools, universities, and industry associations (and possibly other groups).

PURPOSE: To engage Canadian youth in computer science, to foster computer science education in schools, and to promote knowledge of computer science – its educational pathways, careers and its importance to our economy.

WEBSITE: www.cancomped.ca

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Consider activities that you and your organization can undertake to shed light on the importance of computer science education in the P-12 school system: support more experienced teachers working in the area with workshops, build confidence in new teachers by holding a “learn to program” or “program a robot” fun seminar, host a panel discussion on career opportunities for youth in digital technology development, create or support a local CSTA group, host a Saturday morning Moms and Daughters computer science session, and/or hold an open house with a guest speaker that is sure to attract youth, parents and/or teachers.

Once you have an event planned, provide us with the details at link Register Your Event.

Promote your local event / activity aggressively with your local media. We wish to draw national attention to the importance of CS education to Canada and a loud national focus on February 22, 2013 can do this.
