Folks, Science East is one of the groups in our province making a difference in encouraging young girls to follow a path towards science and technology. They need our help. If you are available for either of the ILLUMINATE! events below, or know someone who might be – perhaps someone who lives in the event area, please contact Lieff Salonius at Science East. She will explain what the event is like and what is required of volunteers (very easy) and answer any questions you may have. She can help any volunteer who would like to be involved, including providing you with some activity to host to help initiate conversations. Experience shows that having professional women in front of young women, telling their stories of what they do and how they got to where they are, is very powerful. Please consider getting involved. If you can’t be part of either of these events, consider giving Lieff a call anyway to find out more about it, with the possibility of participating in an event sometime next term.

Lieff’s contact info: lieff.salonius@scienceeast.nb.ca or 506-457-2340 ext. 26

Carleton North High School, November 27, 2012 (tomorrow night)

Sir James Dunn Academy, St. Andrews, December 12, 2012

Science East, Sir James Dunn Academy, and Carleton North High School are hosting ILLUMINATE, an evening of hands-on fun and excitement for students and their families. The goal is to provide youth with examples of some of the amazing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) by giving them the chance to talk to “real” professionals as well as to handle and see the tools/technologies used in different STEM fields. Exhibitors are encouraged to provide hands-on displays and activities (feel free to contact us if you need help with display ideas).

ILLUMINATE will take place in both locations from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Doors will be open at 5:00 for set-up.
